Biographical Information[edit]

Matias Baruch pitched over 200 games in the minor leagues.

Baruch debuted in 1978 with Ciudad Valles, going 6-3 with a 1.04 ERA. He was second in ERA in the Mexican Center League's final year, trailing Federico Longoria. In 1979, he moved up to the Mexican League with the Petroleros de Poza Rica, going 2-2 with a save and a 4.74 ERA, walking 25 in 38 innings. In 1980, he improved to 3-2, 2.74. He was 1-4 with a 2.96 ERA in 31 games (2 starts) in 1981. From 1982-1984, he pitched exactly 28 games each year. The first season, he had a career-high 6 wins against 3 losses and 4 saves while posting a 3.16 ERA for the Petroleros. In 1983, he was 0-4 with a 4.76 ERA. Moving to the Piratas de Campeche, the Veracruz native was 1-2 with a 3.34 ERA in 1984. He remained with Campeche in 1985 and turned in a 1-0, 4.46 performance over 18 outings. In '86, he struggled in a high-offense season in the Liga, going 4-7 with a save and a 7.78 ERA between Campeche and the Aguila de Veracruz, with 117 hits in 76 1/3 IP. He did not pitch in '87 then returned in 1988 with the Bravos de Leon, tossing 6 2/3 shutout innings (4 H, 4 BB).

Overall, he was 18-24 with 6 saves and a 4.12 ERA in 201 Mexican League games (23 starts).
