Biographical Information[edit]

Masaru Yoshizaki pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Yoshizaki was selected by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the third round of the 1999 NPB draft, but he spent his first 3 seasons mainly in the NPB Farm Leagues, only pitching 17 games combined with the big club over this period. He joined the rotation in 2003, and he had his career year. Yoshizaki was selected into the 2003 NPB All-Star Games, and replaced Tsuyoshi Wada in the 4th inning in Game 1; he pitched 2 shutout innings. He ended up 8-6 with a 4.37 ERA in 21 starts.

The Kyoto native only pitched 4 games in 2004 due to injury. He was removed from the rotation in 2005, and he had a 3.89 ERA in 40 relief outings. However, that was the last productive season for Yoshizaki. He spent the entire 2006 season in ni-gun, then the Fighters released him. The Rakuten Golden Eagles picked him up, but Yoshizaki only pitched 19 more games for them in the next two seasons, and he announced his retirement after the 2009 season.

Overall, Yoshizaki was 9-10 with a 4.77 ERA, collected 10 holds, struck out 109 and pitched 200 innings in 8 years in the NPB.
