David W. Smith describes his career thus: "Marty's entire major league career consisted of a single game on September 30, 1928 in Brooklyn. He started the game and the first six Brooklyn batters did the following:

1. Wally Gilbert walked

1. Harvey Hendrick bunted and was credited with a sacrifice when third baseman Pinky Whitney made a wild throw to first; Gilbert scored and Hendrick went to second as first baseman Don Hurst made a wild throw trying to get Gilbert going to third.

1. Max West walked

1. Rube Bressler tripled, scoring Hendrick and West

1. Del Bissonette singled, scoring Bressler

1. Jake Flowers walked

This was the end of Walker's major league career. He is one of several pitchers to have an undefined career ERA as he allowed 3 earned runs but had 0 innings pitched. However, he is the only one of these pitchers to allow a sacrifice in the process."
