Biographical Information

Harvey Hendrick hit .308 lifetime at a variety of defensive positions. Although he played more first base than anywhere else, he had 220 games in the outfield and 118 at third base.

As a 25-year-old rookie, he played 37 games on the 1923 New York Yankees and appeared in 1 game on the winning World Series team. He was a backup again in 1924 and then with the Cleveland Indians in 1925. He was not in the majors in 1926, and then got 458 at-bats in 1927 with the Brooklyn Dodgers, serving both as fourth outfielder and as backup first baseman. He stole 29 bases and hit 11 triples.

His peak year was 1929, when he hit .354 and slugged .560. Both put him in the top 10 in the league.

From 1927-34, he always hit at least .290 except for a drop-off in 1930.

He committed suicide at the age of 43 by shooting himself at his home in Covington.
