Pitcher Marty Herrmann was the grandfather of catcher Ed Herrmann. Marty pitched one inning for the Brooklyn Robins in 1918, giving up one walk, no hits and no runs. His one inning was against the Cincinnati Reds.
The minor league database does not presently show any games for Marty, but articles indicate that he played either pro or semi-pro ball, including for a team in Milwaukee. [1] [2]
" I chose baseball instead of football because of my grandfather. He played in the major leagues. His name was Marty (Herrmann). He talked me into pursuing a career in baseball, said that I would have more long-term success." - Ed Herrmann about his grandpa Marty [3]
