Biographical Information[edit]
Mark Skeels was the first catcher ever drafted and signed by the Florida Marlins franchise. Catcher Charles Johnson was the Marlins' first pick in their inaugural 1992 draft, but he held out for a few months before signing, allowing Skeels, who was drafted in the 18th round, to beat him to the punch. Skeels appeared in the 1993 Topps set, Card #558, with Pitcher Ryan Whitman.
Skeels' older brother, Andy Skeels, and his younger brother, David Skeels, both played in the minors.
