Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Mark Shannon was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 24th round of the 2013 amateur draft out of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. In high school, he was mainly a pitcher, sharing mound duties with future major leaguer Taylor Rogers; ironically, Taylor's twin brother, Tyler Rogers, who also became a professional pitcher, was the shortstop on the team. He went to the University of Northern Colorado and later to UNLV as a pitcher, but also played the outfield and impressed scouts more as a position player.

In his first experience in the pro ranks, he played 62 games between the Orem Owlz and AZL Angels in 2013, hitting .292/.353/.506 with 11 homers and 36 RBIs. In 2014, he split his time between the Burlington Bees and the Inland Empire 66ers, hitting .287/.327/.429 in 133 games, with 32 doubles, 13 homers, 70 runs and 69 RBIs. He spent time in both center field and left field. However, he was slowed down by an injury in 2015, as he was limited to 37 games of hitting.200 with Inland Empire and 3 games with the AZL Angels on a rehabilitation assignment. He was back in full health at the start of 2016 and was assigned to the AA Arkansas Travelers.
