Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Mark Scheiwe played in the Chicago Cubs minor league system from 1979 to 1981.

He was drafted by the club in the 18th round of the 1979 amateur draft -- the same round as catcher Mark Salas and future football superstar John Elway. With the GCL Cubs in 1979, he went 4-2 with a 5.03 ERA in 13 games (9 starts), walking 39 batters (to only 31 strikeouts) in 59 innings. In 1980, he was 3-2 with a 4.50 ERA in 14 games (7 starts) for the GCL Cubs, walking 26 and K-ing 31 in 58 innings. With the Quad Cities Cubs in 1981, Scheiwe had six walks, a strikeout and a 3.00 ERA in six innings of work.

Overall, the hurler went 7-4 with a 4.68 ERA in 29 games (16 starts). In 123 innings, he had 71 walks and 63 Ks.
