Biographical Information[edit]

Mark Naehring reached AAA. His nephew Tim Naehring was an All-Star.

Naehring was picked by the Baltimore Orioles in the 27th round of the 1974 amateur draft but opted for college. He was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 3rd round of the 1977 amateur draft, 5 rounds before his nephew was picked out of the same school 11 years later.

Mark debuted as a pro with the 1977 Knoxville Sox, starting off at AA. He hit .246/.313/.418 in 68 games while fielding .941 at third base. In '78, he batted .302/.388/.463 for Knoxville. He was 7th in the Southern League in batting average and was named the All-Star third baseman.

In 1979, Naehring split time between Knoxville (.294/.433/.418) and the Iowa Oaks (1 for 4, 2 BB), held back at AA despite his success there the prior year. He was 9th in the SL in average, third in walks (99) and first in OBP and again was chosen the All-Star third baseman. During 1980, Mark spent his only full year at AAA, hitting .259/.377/.391 for Iowa.

Naehring went to the Orioles chain in 1981. He hit .256/.367/.406 for the Charlotte O's that year, then .281/.404/.372 for Charlotte in '82 to wrap up his career.
