Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Mark J. Johnson was a first-round selection by the Houston Astros in the 1996 amateur draft. He pitched nine seasons with the Astros, Florida Marlins, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers, Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers organizations. His only taste of major league action came for the Tigers in 2000, going 0-1 with a 7.50 ERA in 9 games. During that lone voyage in the bigs, there were two other active major leaguers named Mark Johnson: first baseman Mark Johnson and catcher Mark L. Johnson.

After his playing days Johnson served as a volunteer pitching coach for the Erie SeaWolves in 2006 and the pitching coach of the Oneonta Tigers in 2007. He was the pitching coach of the West Michigan Whitecaps in 2008-2012, Connecticut Tigers in 2013-2014, West Michigan again in 2015-2016, Lakeland Flying Tigers in 2017-2018 and Erie in 2019. He was scheduled to be pitching coach of Erie in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. He did coach Erie again in 2021.
