Biographical information[edit]

Mark Baker is a former minor league pitcher who played in the Houston Astros organization from 1984 to 1987. He was originally drafted as a catcher in the sixth round of the 1984 January draft by the Philadelphia Phillies, although he did not sign. He was then drafted by the Houston Astros in the fourth round of the June secondary draft that year, and he signed. He was signed by scout C.V. Davis.

He pitched for the GCL Astros and Daytona Beach Astros in 1984, posting a record of 1-2 with 11 saves and an ERA of 1.05 in 26 games. He pitched for the Osceola Astros in 1985, going 4-5 with a 3.09 ERA in 46 games. He saved 24 games to lead the Florida State League.

In 1986, he posted a combined 2-6 record, six saves and a 5.23 ERA in 22 games split between the Osceola Astros (one game) and Columbus Astros. He played for the Columbus Astros in his final season, going 0-1 with a save and a 5.62 ERA in four games.
