In 1961, Mario was with the Decatur Commodores (7-6, 4.23) and Duluth-Superior Dukes (0-2) to conclude his US career.
Returning to his native Mexico, the right-hander was 6-3 with a 5.07 ERA for the 1962 Fresnillo Rojos and 3-3 with a 3.51 ERA for the Mexico City Red Devils. He would remain as a reliever for Mexico City for the rest of the 1960s. He had records of 11-8 3.60 in 1963, 7-7, 4.43 in 1964, 3-5, 4.50 in 1965 and 5-1, 3.27 in 1966. In 1967, he pitched in 55 games, going 7-8 with a 2.21 ERA and only allowed two homers in 102 innings. Pelaez later managed the Cafeteros de Córdoba and Fresnillo Mineros. In '72, he guided Córdoba (his hometown team) to its second title and first in 33 years; they have not won again as of 2010. Mario pitched one game for the 1973 Cafeteros and tossed a shutout inning to conclude his playing career. Overall, he had gone 43-40 with a 3.55 ERA in 309 Mexican League games (19 starts). He had walked 305 in 573 innings. He had a 69-58 record for his entire minor league career.
