Biographical Information[edit]
Mario Impemba became the play-by-play broadcaster for televized games of the Detroit Tigers on FOX Sports in 2002, teaming up with former player Rod Allen. From 1995 to 2001 , he had worked on the broadcasting team for the Anaheim Angels. he had got his start in broadcasting covering college sports at Michigan State University, then worked for the Class A Peoria Chiefs in 1987-1988, the Quad Cities Angels (1989-1990) and the AAA Tucson Toros starting in 1991 before getting the Angels job. he also worked minor league hockey games during that time.
Working for the Tigers was a homecoming for him, as he had grown up in the Detroit, MI area. On September 4, 2018, he was involved in what was described as a severe fight with broadcast partner Allen following a game against the Chicago White Sox. The two were sent home on different planes and were suspended while the network investigated the incident, as FOX Sports asked both announcers to stay home for the remainder of the year. It was announced after the season that the two announcers would not be back in 2019. Impemba managed to find another job, however, joining the Boston Red Sox broadcast team in 2019, alongside Joe Castiglione. Red Sox President Dave Dombrowski was a long-time friend of Impemba's , dating back to his days as General Manager of the Tigers.
