Biographical Information[edit]
Manny Martinez played three years in the majors, appearing with four different teams. He was the regular centerfielder for the Montreal Expos in 1999, playing alongside right fielder Vladimir Guerrero.
Manny also played 14 seasons in the minors, including some seasons in Mexico. He played in the Mexican League in class AAA through 2008, after which his professional career ceased.
Martinez joined the New York Mets organization in 2010 as a DSL coach, though it is not clear which DSL team he coached for in his early years. The best guess is that he was a coach for the DSL Mets 1 in 2010-2011 and he was listed with the team in 2012. Martinez was the hitting coach for the DSL Mets 2 in 2013-2014. The Mets promoted him to manager of the DSL Mets 1 in 2015 and he stayed in that role through the 2022 season.
The Philadelphia Phillies hired Martinez as a hitting coach for the DSL Phillies Red in 2023 and DSL Phillies White in 2024.
In addition to his summer coaching work in the Dominican Republic, Martinez is a long-time coach with the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican League. He started as a bench coach in 2011/2012 and probably returned in this role during the next season. From 2013/2014 through 2021/2022 Martinez served as the team's first base coach. He moved across the diamond in 2022/2023 as the third base coach.
