Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Manny Jose played in the minor leagues from 1981 to 1992. Signed by the Boston Red Sox and beginning his career at 17 years old, he remained at Low-A/Single-A through 1987 and didn't reach Triple-A until his penultimate campaign in 1991.
The speedster stole 46 bases in 1983, then swiped 27, 38, 51, 42, 20, 11, 32 and 18 over the next few years, respectively. Speed was his primary asset, as he hit just .263/.326/.352 with 25 home runs and 289 RBI—but with 291 swipes—in his affiliated/stateside career. He did, however, bat .323/.379/.413 with 130 hits in 116 games for the Greensboro Hornets in 1985, leading the South Atlantic League in batting average.
In his first taste of Triple-A in 1991, he hit .224/.303.239 with 5 stolen bases in 37 games for the Nashville Sounds in the Cincinnati Reds organization. He wrapped up his career with the Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz of the Mexican League in 1992.
