Biographical Information[edit]

Manny Crespo has had many roles in baseball.

He was picked in the third round of the 1968 amateur draft by the Boston Red Sox and spent 1968-1974 in the minor leagues, including all of 1972 at AAA. He was primarily a utility infielder. He coached for Miami Dade-New World Center and Florida International University. In 1978, he became a scout for the San Diego Padres. He was the roving minor league infield instructor for the Padres from 1979-1983. He is listed as the manager of the 1982 GCL Padres by some sources.

Crespo was a private hitting coach and youth baseball director following the 1983 season. He was hitting coach for the GCL Marlins from 1996-1998 then was the Florida Marlins roving minor league infield instructor from 1999-2001. Crespo managed the GCL Yankees in 2002. From 2003-2005, Manny was Latin American Coordinator of Instruction for the Padres. He has been the Detroit Tigers Director of Latin American Player Development from November 2005 through the present (2013).

Crespo was the bench coach for Mauro Mazzotti and the Spanish national team in the 2009 Baseball World Cup, 2010 European Championship, 2012 European Championship, 2013 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers and 2013 World Baseball Classic. He then managed Spain in the 2017 World Baseball Classic Qualifiers.
