The Mannheim Amigos were founded by Claus Helmig to bring a rival to the Mannheim Tornadoes. They won Bundesliga titles in 1983 and 1992 and in 1993 they won their only continental title, the European Cup Pool B. The Amigos ran afoul of controversy for its reliance on foreign-born players. The team is no longer active in the Bundesliga.
