Biographical Information

Manabu Iwadate has been a player in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Iwadate hit only .245 in college yet was picked in the 5th round of the 2003 NPB draft by the Yomiuri Giants. As a rookie in 2004, he went one for two, his hit being a double off Kan Otake. He was 2 for 18 with 2 walks and 8 strikeouts in 2005. In 2006, he went 2 for 17 with 2 walks, 7 whiffs, a steal and 3 runs. His main position was third base (13 games), where he was one of several players backing up veteran Hiroki Kokubo.

Iwadate was 1 for 4 with a double in 2007. He had 36 plate appearances and 17 games in 2008, batting .258/.343/.355, primarily backing up Takuya Kimura at second base. He did not play in the 2008 Japan Series, which Yomiuri lost to the Seibu Lions. Iwadate only played one game in 2009 and did not bat. That off-season, he was sold to the Nippon Ham Fighters. He was 0 for 1 for the 2010 Fighters and 1 for 3 with a run in 2011. That brought him to a .197/.274/.263 batting line over 86 plate appearances and 67 games.

In his 9th season, he finally got his first homer, a solo shot off Hiroki Yamada on May 1, 2012.
