Biographical Information[edit]

Mac Sceroler was drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 5th round of the 2017 amateur draft, one year after having been a 36th round pick by the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016. Both years, he was playing for Southeastern Louisiana University in Hammond, LA.

He pitched in the Reds system from 2017, when he played for the Billings Mustangs of the Pioneer League, until 2019, when he spent the year with the Daytona Tortugas of the High-A Florida State League. He went 5-4, 3.69 in 26 games, including 20 starts, striking out 127 batters in 117 innings. Like all minor leaguers, he was forced to take a year off in 2020 when the Coronavirus pandemic shut down the minor leagues, and when the Reds failed to add him to their major league roster after the season, he was picked third overall by the Baltimore Orioles in the 2020 Rule V Draft.

He went to major league spring training with the Orioles in 2021, and made the team as a reliever, alongside another Rule V draftee, Tyler Wells.

Sceroler's uncle is Ben McDonald, who also pitched for the Orioles.
