Biographical Information[edit]
Luis Sojo was signed by scout Epy Guerrero for the Toronto Blue Jays on January 3, 1986. He made his pro debut the next summer.
Sojo won five batting titles in the Venezuelan Winter League. He was the All-Star shortstop in the 1997 Caribbean Series, hitting .478/?/.739 with 10 runs for the Navegantes del Magallanes. He also batted .391 and slugged .522 for the Cardenales de Lara in the 2001 Caribbean Series. After retiring, he has been a third base coach for the New York Yankees in 2004 and 2005. He managed the Venezuelan team in the 2006 World Baseball Classic, 2009 World Baseball Classic, 2010 Central American and Caribbean Games, 2010 Pan American Games Qualifying Tournament, 2011 Baseball World Cup, 2011 Pan American Games, 2013 World Baseball Classic and 2015 Premier 12. He also managed the Norwich Navigators for part of the 2002 season, leading them to the Eastern League title, and the Tampa Yankees starting in 2006. He was a coach for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in 2014. He managed the Spanish national team in the 2019 European Championship (Bronze Medal) and 2019 Europe/Africa Olympic Qualifier. He was elected to the Caribbean Baseball Hall of Fame in 2019.
