Biographical Information[edit]
While he had just 28 at-bats in Major League Baseball, Luis Rosado's pro baseball career spanned 15 years, 10 leagues and 13 teams, showing how long backup catchers can hang around. Starting with the 1972 Appalachian League, Rosado finally retired, at the age of 30, after playing 22 games in the 1986 Mexican League. In the major leagues, he played for the New York Mets in 1977 and 1980, for a total of 11 games. Ironically, he was used more often as a first baseman (8 games) than as a catcher (1 game) at the big league level.
He played for the San Juan Senators, Bayamón Cowboys, Caguas Creoles and Santurce Crabbers of the Puerto Rican Winter Baseball League. After his retirement as an active player, he became the president of the Puerto Rican Association of Professional Baseball Players.
