Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Luis Peralta was originally signed by the Pittsburgh Pirates as an international amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic on July 3, 2017. The scout was Juan Mercado. He played in the Pirates' system from 2018 to 2024, starting off with two seasons in the Dominican Summer League in 2018 and 2019, and then sitting out the 2020 season when the COVID-19 pandemic shut down the minor leagues.

He first came to the U.S. in 2021 playing in the Florida Complex League with both the FCL Pirates Black and the FCL Pirates Gold. He finally made it to Class A in 2022, the first of two full seasons for him with the Bradenton Marauders of the Florida State League. He did not impress much that first season, going 0-7, 6.41 in 19 games, all but one as a starter, then moved to the bullpen in 2023, he was 0-3, 4.96 in 23 games. He finally won a first game since leaving the D.R. in 2024, when he went 4-0, 0.60 in 19 games for the Greensboro Grasshoppers of the South Atlantic League. That marked the start of a meteoric rise that saw him be promoted to the Altoona Curve of the Eastern League on June 25th. On July 29th, he was traded to the Colorado Rockies for Jalen Beeks and stayed in the Eastern League, switching over to the Hartford Yard Goats. Between the two EL teams, he went 3-0, 1.62 in 12 games. On August 20th, he was promoted again, now to the Albuquerque Isotopes of the Pacific Coast League, but made just one appearance there, pitching a hitless and scoreless inning before getting the call to the Show.

Luis's major league debut took place on August 24, 2024, for the Rockies against the New York Yankees at New Yankee Stadium. He came in as a reliever for Bradley Blalock, who had allowed just 2 runs in 5 1/3 innings, and did not give up a hit over the nexy inning and two-thirds, striking out two batters in the process. The Rockies went on to win the game, 9-2, with Blalock earning his first career win.
