Biographical Information

Infielder Luis Maza made his Major League debut as a defensive substitute at shortstop for the Los Angeles Dodgers against the Milwaukee Brewers on May 14, 2008, then obtained his first start in place of Rafael Furcal the next day. He collected his first base hit and scored two runs in a 7-2 Dodgers win. He also played second base during that game. In all, he spent two months in the majors, hitting .228 in 45 games.

A veteran minor leaguer, Maza played in the Minnesota Twins system from 1998 to 2006 before moving to the Dodgers as a minor league free agent in 2007. He played for Venezuela as a back-up infielder in the 2009 World Baseball Classic.

For 2011, Maza signed with Grosseto in the Italian Baseball League after two prior players with MLB experience had fallen through - Abraham Nunez and Tomas Perez. He was their Opening Day center fielder and #3 hitter, going 0 for 4 with a walk in a loss to Novara United.
