Biographical Information[edit]

Luis Díaz has played in the Bundesliga and for the German national team.

He debuted in the Bundesliga with the Mannheim Tornados in 2013, playing one game and not batting. [1] In 2014, he was 1 for 3 with a RBI. [2] The next season, he became the team's starting first baseman; at age 18, he hit .171/.213/.195 and fielded .950. [3]

Díaz batted .246/.333/.246 in 2016, fielding .966. [4] In '17, he moved to the outfield, primarily backing up Thomas De Wolf in right. He hit .343/.375/.343 in limited action. [5] He returned to first base in 2018 and hit .213/.278/.315 but fielded perfectly. He tied Sascha Lutz for 3rd in the Bundesliga-1 south with 9 doubles and led first basemen in fielding percentage. [6]

Despite his unimpressive offensive numbers to that point, he was picked for Germany's team for the 2018 Super6. He had one of their four hits in their opening loss to Italy. Pinch-hitting for Nadir Ljatifi, he singled off Filippo Crepaldi in the 7th. He also replaced Kevin Kotowski at the plate late in a loss to Spain. He struck out against both Jorge Balboa and Carlos Sierra, having stayed in as the right fielder, with Maik Ehmcke replacing Kotowski in center. [7]
