Biographical Information[edit]

Luis Azócar signed with the San Francisco Giants in March 2006. He made his pro debut with the DSL Giants that summer, going 1-0 with a 4.83 ERA; he walked 23 and threw 13 wild pitches in 31 2/3 IP. In 2007, he had a 2-0, 3.45 record with 29 K and 20 BB in 28 2/3 IP. he was 3-1 with a save and a 4.39 ERA for the 2008 DSL Giants, but his control was horrendous (40 walks in 26 2/3 IP, though he did whiff 35). He finished his DSL Giants career with a 2-1, 2.95 record and 3 saves in 2009. Overall, he had a 8-2, 3.84 record and four saves in 77 games for the team, striking out 134 and walking 105 in 126 2/3 IP.

The Caracas native was easily Venezuela's top hurler in the 2011 Baseball World Cup, allowing no runs in 6 2/3 IP (4 H, 4 BB, 4 K), including 4 2/3 shutout innings of a 7-0 loss to Team Canada. In the 2011 Pan American Games, he pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed one hit.
