Luis Atocha has played in the minors and for the Ecuadorian national team.
Signed by the St. Louis Cardinals, he hit .143/.337/.270 for the '23 DSL Cardinals, fielding .978 at 1B and .982 at C. In the 2024 South American Championship, he was Ecuador's main catcher. He debuted against Chile, hitting into an error his first time and singling off Nelson Varas for his first hit. He was 3-for-10 with a double, two runs and two RBI in four games, handling 17 chances error-free and allowing five steals in five tries. Only Raiwinson Lameda had more total bases for Ecuador. [1]
