Biographical Information[edit]
Luciano Echeverría was only 15 when he played for the Chilean national team in the 2016 South American Championship. He debuted as a reliever for Felipe Rubio, closing out a 21-8 loss to eventual champion Chile. He allowed four hits and four runs in 1 2/3 IP. In the 5th/6th place game against Bolivia, he entered late in a win and rapped a two-run single off Walter Vargas.
In the 2018 South American Championship, he replaced Andrés Rodríguez in the 3rd with a 10-3 lead over Bolivia. He allowed one inherited run to score but did much better than his predecessor, giving up only one run in four innings (4 H, BB, 3 K) as Chile built their lead to 14-5 before Ulises Ormeno came in to close it out. He also got to bat once in the event; down 9-1 against tournament winner Argentina, he batted for Fernando Peña in the bottom of the 9th and struck out against Lucas Ramón.
