Biographical Information

Louis Leroy was a Native American from his mother's side, and French Canadian from his father's side. He pitched three seasons in the major leagues and 17 in the minor leagues. His best year in the majors was 1906 when his ERA was 2.22 in 44 2/3 innings with the New York Highlanders.

He pitched for the Montreal Royals in 1904 and 1905 and his pictures for those years can be found here: 1904 Royals and 1905 Royals. In all, he had 222 wins in the minors, including two seasons with 20 wins. He led the American Association in losses three different years: in 1908 with 21, in 1911 with 23 and in 1913 with 20. He was with the St. Paul Saints all three years.

While at Carlisle Indian School, he apparently had a habit of running away and joining a semi-pro baseball team for the summer. He also played on the school's football team under legendary coach Glenn "Pop" Warner.
