Biographical Information[edit]

Loren Hibbs was an All-Tournament outfielder for the 1982 College World Series as a sophomore at Wichita State. He was selected by the Texas Rangers in the 1982 amateur draft, the Montreal Expos in the 1983 amateur draft, and the San Francisco Giants in the 1984 amateur draft.

Hibbs hit .220/.352/.364 for the Everett Giants in 1984 and was error-free in the outfield. It was his only season in professional baseball.

Hibbs returned to Wichita State as an assistant coach for seven years, and was the head coach at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte from 1993-2019, going 819-682-5. He then became assistant athletic director at his alma mater. When Eric Wedge stepped away from the program due to health issues, Hibbs became interim head coach for 2023.
