Biographical Information[edit]
Lipso Nava was drafted in the 14th round of the 1990 amateur draft by the Seattle Mariners. He has played with the Mariners organization, advancing as high as the AA Jacksonville Suns until being released after the 1994 season. He was signed by the Boston Red Sox and spent the 1995 season with the Sarasota Red Sox and the Trenton Thunder. He was a Texas-Louisiana League All-Star in 1996 with the Rio Grande Valley White Wings and had his contract purchased by the Chicago Cubs after the season. He spent the entire 1997 season with the AAA Iowa Cubs.
He was voted onto the 'All-Time Greatest Patriot Team' with the Somerset Patriots of the Atlantic League after playing with the team from 1998 through 2000. In 2001, Lipso split the season between Rojos del Aguila de Veracruz and Algodoneros de Torreon in the Mexican League. He played with the Atlantic League's Camden Riversharks in 2002 and 2003 and was the Atlantic League's All-Star third baseman in 2003. He travled to Taiwan for the 2004 season with the Makoto Cobras of the CPBL but missed much of the season with a hand injury. He split the 2005 season with Langosteros de Cancun of the Mexican League and Camden. Nava played the 2006 season with the Atlantic League's Newark Bears but spent two months on the disabled list.
Nava retired after the 2006 season and served as hitting coach for the Bears for the 2007 season. He was hired by the San Francisco Giants to be the hitting coach for the Single A Augusta GreenJackets for 2008-2010. He became the Augusta manager in 2011. After two seasons managing, Nava was a coach for the San Jose Giants in 2013-2015 then managed the same club in 2016. He then coached the Richmond Flying Squirrels in 2017 and 2019 and was scheduled to coach Richmond again in 2020 before the season was cancelled due to Covid-19. Nava was fundamentals coach of the Eugene Emeralds in 2021 and Richmond in 2023-2024.
His brother Lino Nava played for the Venezuelan national team.
