Biographical Information

Lew Ford made his return to the major leagues on July 29, 2012, playing for the Baltimore Orioles. It was his first appearance since September 30, 2007, when he was a member of the Minnesota Twins. In the interim, he had played in Nippon Pro Baseball for the Hanshin Tigers, but hit only .225 in 2008. After that, he ended up in the independent leagues for a spell, signed on with the Cincinnati Reds' organization, played in the Mexican League, where the Orioles found him and signed him to a AAA contract.

He was the MVP of the Lowell Spinners in the New York-Penn League in 2004. As of 2021, at age 45, he was still active as a player-coach with the Long Island Ducks of the Atlantic League, his 11th season with the team. He was the oldest player in the circuit. In 2024, he succeeded long-time fixture Wally Backman as the Ducks' manager.
