Biographical Information

Levi Michael was a first-round pick in 2011.

Michael was All-State as a high school junior. Perfect Game rated him the 63rd-best prospect in the nation. He left a semester early to enroll in college sooner. As a college freshman, he hit .290/.377/.527 with 13 home runs, 54 runs and 57 RBI in 65 games; he fielded .949. He played in the 2009 College World Series. The switch-hitting second baseman put up a .247/.383/.290 line for the Harwich Mariners in the 2009 Cape Cod League. As a sophomore, Levi moved to third base and hit .346/.480/.575 with 76 runs, 54 runs and 20 steals (caught just twice) in 60 contests, while fielding .913. He was 5th in the Atlantic Coast Conference in OBP, was fourth in runs (tied for 13th in NCAA Division I and 8th in steals. He returned to Harwich for a second summer and hit .252/.353/.370. Baseball America rated him as the #18 prospect in the Cape Cod League.

As a junior, Michael fell to .289/.434/.434 with 53 runs in 65 games and 15 steals in 16 attempts. He fielded .969 at shortstop, his new position. He appeared in the 2011 College World Series. The Minnesota Twins took him with the 30th pick of the 2011 amateur draft, in between two other collegiate position players, fellow shortstop Joe Panik and outfielder Mikie Mahtook. The scout was Ricky Taylor. He signed for a $1,175,000 bonus.

Michael made his pro debut in 2012 with the Fort Myers Miracle. Hitting 9th and starting at shortstop on Opening Day, he struck out against fellow first-rounder Grayson Garvin in his first at-bat. He finished the day 0 for 3 with a walk.
