Biographical Information[edit]
Lester "Lep" Long was at Lafayette College during 1907-11 and made his major league debut on June 29, 1911 for Connie Mack's 1911 Philadelphia Athletics, a team which won 101 games that season and also took the 1911 World Series four games to two.
It was going to be a tough team to find a spot on, and Long, although posting an ERA of 4.50, gave up 15 hits in eight innings of relief. He had four appearances, and gave up no earned runs in three of them.
He celebrated his 23rd birthday during the three weeks he was on the Athletics' team. He was two years younger than teammate Eddie Collins.
