Biographical Information[edit]

Leon McFadden, who played shortstop and outfield in the majors, appeared with the Houston Astros between 1968 and 1970. In 1968, his rookie year with the Astros, he hit .277.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Houston Colt .45s in 1963, McFadden made his Major League debut on September 6, 1968 against Pat Jarvis and the Atlanta Braves. In his only at-bat of the game, McFadden collected a base hit.

His final big league game was on April 28, 1970. He was a pinch runner for Bob Watson in that game.

Overall, McFadden appeared in 62 big league games, collecting 26 hits in 121 at-bats for a .215 batting average. He hit three doubles, no triples and no home runs, scored five times and drove in four runs. He stole two bases and was caught twice and he walked 10 times and he struck out 19 times. His career fielding percentage was .962.

During his time with the Astros, he wore number 20.

McFadden started in the minors in 1963 as a pitcher, and pitched in 37 games in 1963 and 1964. He was converted to a shortstop and also played some third base in 1965. He was with the Oklahoma City 89ers for all or part of each season between 1966 and 1970, playing very little outfield during that time except at the major league level. He played in 1971 with the Tacoma Cubs with the Chicago Cubs organization. He played for the Hanshin Tigers in 1972.

At last check, he lived in Inglewood, CA.
