Biographical Information[edit]
Leland "Lee" Susman was a sports cartoonist for the Oakland Tribune for 35 years. During this time he not only covered the Pacific Coast League but also designed the logo for the Oakland Oaks. His little "Little Acorn" mascot was used by the team for many years. Susman also designed program covers for the San Francisco Seals and Sacramento Solons.
Susman served five years in the Navy during World War II. When he returned he began working for the Tribune as their college football cartoonist. His caricature of the USC Trojans mascot as Frankenstein's monster and Oregon Ducks' as Kid Canvasback were staples of the Tribune for many years. In 2008 he was elected to the Pacific Coast League Hall of Fame.
