Biographical Information[edit]
Lawrence Kunihisa debuted for the Hawaiian All-Stars in 1935, playing second base. [1] He was the subject of a dispute that year between the Wanderers and Asahi, both of whom sought his services. [2] He was the Hawaii League All-Star utility man in 1940. [3] He was the star of the Hawai'ian national team in the 1940 Amateur World Series, when they did as well as Venezuela. He hit .429/~.571/.524 with seven steals, seven walks and ten runs in the team's 12 games. He led the event in steals, was four behind run leader Stanley Cayasso, was third in average (after Jonathan Robinson and Segundo Rodríguez) and was presumably second to Robinson in OBP. [4] He formed the Rural Red Sox after World War II. [5] He managed the Hawaii Red Sox in the 1956 Global World Series. [6] He was later a politician in Hawaii. [7] He was not the most famous politician from Punahou School - Barack Obama later attended.
