La Barca (MCL)

From BR Bullpen

The only team (through 2011) out of La Barca, Jalisco won a title in their season. They were 34-24-1 in the 1978 Mexican Center League, third-best in the MCL in average, but first in the Central Division. In the playoffs, they upset the Matamoros club 5 games to 1. They outscored opponents 339-284 and drew 9,435 in attendance. Guillermo Valenzuela (12-4, 1.68) led the league in wins, though he would not be the most prominent Valenzuela to come out of the league - that would be a kid named Fernando Valenzuela of the Guanajuato Tuzos, who had a higher ERA and worse record. Leading La Barca in average was OF Enrique Arevalo (.351/.425/.580).
