Biographical Information[edit]

Lázaro Rodríguez has been an outfielder in the Cuban Serie Nacional and led the league in triples and steals in 2011-2012.

Rodríguez debuted in 2005-2006 with the Elefantes de Cienfuegos. He hit .321/.395/.405 with 9 steals in 12 tries and fielded .947 as a part-time LF/CF. In 2006-2007, he slumped to .158/.273/.237 and stole 2 bases in 2 attempts. He rebounded to .277/.339/.366 in 2007-2008 with 12 stolen bases (caught only twice) and a .937 fielding percentage. He tied Adonis García for 7th in the Cuban Serie Nacional in steals.

In 2008-2009, he was back on the bench, going 5 for 19 with two walks. He did not play in 2009-2010. In 2010-2011, he was a part-time LF/CF and batted .292/.392/.427 with 8 steals in 14 tries and two triples. Rodríguez became an everyday player in 2011-2012, starting in left field for Cienfuegos. He hit .288/.363/.402, a similar batting line to the year before. His triple total jumped from 2 to 11. He led the Serie Nacional in three-baggers (2 ahead of Erisbel Arruebarruena and Guillermo Heredia Jr.), steals (29, 5 more than runner-up Giorvis Duvergel) and caught stealing (16). He was 9th in plate appearances (422), 10th in at-bats (361), scored 61 runs, tied for 8th in strikeouts (56), fielded .958, had 11 assists in 93 games and tied for second with eight sacrifice flies (2 behind leader Isaac Martínez).
