Lázaro Herrera hit .297/.377/.457 as a C-1B for Matanzas in the 2007-2007 Serie Nacional. Through that season, his 6th, he had a career average of .262 and slugging percentage of .371. Herrera improved to .308/.363/.497 in 2008-2009, moving more to first base as Yaimel Alberro became the regular catcher for Matanzas. Herrera drove in 80 runs in 89 games to finish 6th in the Cuban Serie Nacional in RBI. His 3-run homer on January 29 provided all the offense in the 50th no-hitter in the league's history, as Herrera gave the support needed by Jorge Alberto Martínez Roque.
