Jorge Alberto Martínez has pitched for Matanzas. He hit 14 batters in 2007-2008 to tie Frank Navarro for the Cuban Serie Nacional lead. He was 5-7 with 4 saves and a 5.59 ERA for the year and was among the league leaders in hits allowed (126, 10th), runs allowed (65, 8th), earned runs allowed (60, 5th) and homers allowed (15, tied for 3rd with Carlos Alberto Yanes). Through that season, his 4th, he was 8-17 with six saves and a 6.46 ERA with 133 walks in 249 1/3 IP.

In 2008-2009, Martínez improved to 9-6, 4.58. On January 29, he threw the 50th no-hitter in Cuba during the Castro era, shutting down the Industriales at their home, Latin American Stadium. He allowed no walks or hits and only hit one batter, Serguei Pérez, who was erased on a double play as Jorge faced the minimum 27 hitters to complete his gem. He did not top 87 mph on the radar gun in the win, relying on his curveball.
