Serguei Pérez was an All-Star outfielder in the 1997 World Junior Championship, when Cuba won Gold. He hit .522, slugged 1.043 and scored 12 runs. The other All-Star flyhawks were Long-Yi Huang and Jung Bong.

He tied Yorelvis Charles and Antonio Scull for the Cuban Serie Nacional lead in sacrifice flies in 2004-2005 with 7, while playing for the Metropolitanos. In 2007-2008, he batted .258/.335/.364 as a RF-3B for the Industriales; he fought for outfield time with three Cuban national team veterans - Yasser Gómez, Yoandry Urgellés and Carlos Tabares. Through that season, his 11th, he had hit .288 and slugged .397 in Cuban league play.

Pérez became the Industriales' full-time right fielder in 2008-2009 with the defection of Gómez and Urgellés missing much of the year (presumably due to injury or suspension). Serguei hit .305/.424/.463 and had 12 assists in 89 games in right field, but also 12 errors. His 770 innings in the field were one shy of leading the league, as Jorge Padrón played 771. On January 29, he foiled a perfect game bid by Jorge Alberto Martínez Roque by getting hit by a pitch; Martínez had no walks or hits allowed on the day and Pérez was the only member of the Industriales to reach safely.
