Biographical Information[edit]
Yaimel Alberro only had 478 AB in his first five seasons in Cuba, through 2007-2008; he had hit .257 and slugged .335 in this span. In 2008-2009, he was the starting catcher for Matanzas and hit .260/.303/.329. His forte was defense as he fielded .995 and threw out 25 of 50 attempted base-stealers, earning him a Gold Glove. He was then put on a 58-man preliminary roster for the 2009 Baseball World Cup; his odds were low as the other five catchers listed had all played for the national team and he did not make the final cut.
In 2009-2010, Alberro batted only .214/.252/.281 in a hitter-friendly league but fielded .997 and again threw out half of the players who tried to run on him.
