Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Ky Bush was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the 2nd round of the 2021 amateur draft out of St. Mary's College of California. Three years earlier, the Kansas City Royals had taken him in the 40th round of the 2018 amateur draft, coming out of a high school in his home state of Utah, but he had not signed. Prior to attending St. Mary's, he had gone to Washington State University in 2019 but things did not go well, as he was 0-5, 12.69 in 19 games. He then transferred to Central Arizona College where he went 5-1, 2.43 in 7 games in 2020. In his one season at St. Mary's, finishing at 7-5, 2.99 in 14 starts.

In his first professional season in 2021, he went 0-2, 4.50 in 5 starts for the Tri-City Dust Devils of the High-A West, but he pitched only 12 innings. The Angels got a much better sense of his potential in 2022 when he went 7-4, 3.67 in 21 starts for the Rocket City Trash Pandas of the Southern League. He was named to the American League team for the 2022 Futures Game and struck out 101 batters in 103 innings. In 2023, the first half of his season was disrupted by injuries as he made two rehabilitation outings with the ACL Angels and 6 starts with Rocket City over the four months of the season, going 1-3, 5.88 in AA. On July 26th, he and fellow prospect Edgar Quero were traded to the Chicago White Sox in return for two veteran pitchers, Lucas Giolito and Reynaldo Lopez. He finished the year with the Birmingham Barons, going 3-4, 6.70 in 9 starts. He then started 2024 with Birmingham, going 5-3, 2.12 in his first 14 starts to earn a promotion to the AAA Charlotte Knights. In 4 games there, including 2 starts, he was 2-1, 6.16 when he got the call to the Show to join a White Sox team that was in a tailspin.

He made his major league debut for the White Sox under peculiar circumstances on August 5, 2024 as the White Sox had just lost their last 20 games, tying them for the third worst losing streak in major league history. He started against the Oakland Athletics and gave up just 2 hits in 4 innings, but also walked 5 batters, resulting in 3 runs. He was charged with the 5-1 loss that tied the American League record that had been held by the 1988 Baltimore Orioles, who had lost their first 21 games of that season.
