Biographical Information[edit]
Kwang-ho Shim played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 13 years.
Shim was drafted by the Hanwha Eagles in the first round of the 1996 KBO draft, and he stayed in the minors for the vast majority of his first three seasons; he only got 23 at-bats combined with the big club. He hit .224/.313/.341 in 55 games in 2000, and he missed the next two seasons due to military service. He also represented South Korea in the 2001 Baseball World Cup, going 1 for 8 as the backup catcher behind Sang-hoon Kim.
He played 41 games with a .210/.319/.403 batting line in 2003 after returning, and his batting line was .256/.320/.433 in 2004. He was the backup to Kyung-hyun Shin, and he hit .265/.290/.500 in 63 games in 2005. Shim played a career-high 80 games with a .234/.293/.372 in 2006, and he crushed a home run against Seung-hwan Oh in the 2006 Korean Series Game 3; the Eagles lost to the Samsung Lions in 5 games.
The Cheonan native struggled in 2007, and he had a .197/.269/.311 batting line in 76 games. The Eagles then traded him to the Lions for Ro-woon Lee, and he recorded a .197/.266/.282 batting line in 40 games in 2008. He only played two games for the big club combined in the next two seasons, then the Lions released him after the 2010 season. The LG Twins picked him up, and Shim was 4-for-35 in 2011. He batted .206/.244/.247 in 43 games in 2012, then he announced his retirement. He became a scout for the KT Wiz in 2018.
Overall, Shim hit .216/.281/.355 with 176 hits and 27 homers in 13 seasons in the KBO.
