Biographical Information

Kurt Russell was a child actor in Disney movies who played minor league baseball in the early 1970s. In 1971 he played for the Bend Rainbows and hit .285/.385/.363 with 1 HR and 14 RBI in 51 games. He made the Northwest League All-Star team that year at second base. In 1972, Russell hit .325/~.405/.377 in 29 games for the Walla Walla Islanders. The next year, he went 9 for 16 with 15 total bases and a walk for the El Paso Sun Kings.

The son of actor and former minor leaguer Bing Russell, he went on to star in movies including "Silkwood" (1983), "Swing Shift" (1984), and "Tequila Sunrise" (1988) after his baseball career ended. In fact, the lead role in the movie "Bull Durham" was written with Russell in mind, but the studio insisted on Kevin Costner instead.

Russell's nephew is former major leaguer Matt Franco.
