Biographical Information[edit]

The brother of Al Leiter and Mark Leiter and uncle of Mark Leiter Jr. and Jack Leiter, Kurt Leiter was just 17-36 in the minor leagues.

Undrafted, he debuted with the 1982 Bluefield Orioles, going 4-5 with a 3.81 ERA. In 1983, he was with the Hagerstown Suns (1-3, 1.87, clearly outperforming teammate and brother Mark), Charlotte O's (4-4, 4.48) and San Jose Bees (2-9, 4.25). In 1984, Kurt again outperformed Mark as Hagerstown teammates, going 5-10 with a 4.55 ERA. While Mark led the Carolina League in earned runs and walks allowed, Kurt led in hit batsmen (12) but also tied Randy Myers and Steve Ellsworth for the lead in complete games (7). He pitched five games for Charlotte as well, going 1-3 with a 6.75 ERA.

Leiter returned in 1986 with the Miami Marlins, going 0-2 with a 6.97 ERA in 7 games.
