Korakuen Eagles

The Korakuen Eagles were founded on January 18, 1937 by Korakuen Stadium which was built by Kiyoshi Oshikawa. The team's leading executive was Atsushi Kono. The Eagles were the Japan Baseball League's eighth team allowing the league to play a league schedule rather than tournaments, as had been done in 1936. The team finished its first season (1937 Spring) in last place but then finished in third and fourth in the following two seasons (1937 Fall, 1938 Spring) before dropping to seventh in the 1938 Fall season. In spite of the team's play the team had trouble drawing over 1500 spectators and began to experience financial difficulties. Korakuen Stadium stopped sponsoring its team after the 1938 Fall season. Kono convinced Ryutaro Takahashi, president of the DaiNippon Beer company, to buy the team in October 1938 and the team was renamed the Eagles.
