Biographical Information[edit]
The son of Rusty Kuntz, infielder Kevin Kuntz was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 48th round of the 2009 amateur draft but did not sign, opting to attend the University of Kansas instead. While playing for the Jayhawks he was a two-time team Gold Glove Award winner and led the NCAA in sacrifices per game (0.64) in 2013. He graduated from KU with a bachelor’s degree in applied behavioral science. The Royals once again drafted him, this time in the 28th round of the 2013 amateur draft. Kuntz soon signed and made his pro debut with the Burlington Royals on June 19th, going 0-for-3 against the Pulaski Mariners. In 2014 Kuntz moved up to the Lexington Legends for his second (and final) minor league season. Overall he hit .235/.316/.265 while appearing in 53 games.
Following his playing career, Kuntz stayed with the Royals as part of their player development staff. In 2015 he returned to the Burlington Royals as their bench coach. He followed this coaching stint by spending his next five years working in the baseball operations department with increasing responsibility. He was a baseball operations intern in 2016, baseball operations assistant in 2017-2018, and the baseball operations coordinator in 2019-2020.
Kuntz returned to a coaching role in 2021 as a coach for the ACL Royals Gold. He was an assistant coach for the Quad Cities River Bandits in 2022 and Northwest Arkansas Naturals in 2023-2024.
