Biographical Information[edit]
Kevin Guthrie played ball at Brown University from 2013-2016 and earned a degree in business economics. After graduation he joined the Pittsburgh Pirates organization as a player development intern for the remainder of the year. He stayed with the Pirates in 2017-2018 as a minor league operations assistant. Guthrie left affiliated baseball in 2019 when he worked as the director for Diamond Diagnostics Baseball.
Guthrie's efforts apparently caught the eyes of Detroit Tigers staff because the Tigers hired him in December 2019 to work in their player development system. It is not clear what role he played in 2020 (if any) due to the coronavirus pandemic shutting down the minor league season. In 2021 he served as the development coach for the West Michigan Whitecaps.
Kevin is the son of Mark Guthrie who pitched in the major leagues from 1989-2003 and the brother of Dalton Guthrie, who reached the majors in 2022.
