Biographical Information

Kenya Hunt played in the minor leagues in 1994 and 1995 and in independent baseball in 1996, 1997 and 2000.

He was originally drafted by the Montreal Expos in the 29th round of the 1990 amateur draft out of high school, just a few picks ahead of Bret Hemphill, but did not sign. He was then taken by the San Diego Padres in the 35th round of the 1994 amateur draft, just one pick after Tim Hudson, and signed.

He hit .225/.289/.298 with one home run, 11 RBI and 54 strikeouts in 46 games for the Spokane Indians in 1994 and in 1995, he hit .219/.367/.329 with two home runs, 15 RBI and 32 strikeouts in 32 games for the Idaho Falls Braves. He left the Padres system following the 1995 season and joined the independent Welland Aquaducks in 1996, hitting .254/.321/.329 with one home run, 39 RBI, 25 stolen bases (in 29 attempts) and 63 strikeouts in 72 games. He tied Eric Burroughs for second in the North Atlantic League with five triples, behind Roy Marsh's seven and was second in strikeouts, behind Gil Gonzalez's 75. He also tied for 8th in RBI and tied for 7th in steals. He fielded only .958 as Welland's main first baseman. He hit .188/.316/.188 in eight games for the Anderson Lawmen in 1997 and in 2000, after a few years without playing, he hit .200/.279/.300 in 18 games for the Lafayette Bullfrogs.

Overall, Hunt hit .234/.315/.313 with four home runs, 71 RBI, 33 stolen bases, 88 runs scored, 129 hits and 177 strikeouts in 176 games.

He later worked for a moving company. He was fatally shot in his driveway.
